🤜Gym Guide

So you wanna be a Pokémon Master, eh? Well, you'll have to get through our rough 'n tough Gym Leaders first!

If you know Pokémon, there's a good chance you'll know the title of "Gym Leader." Gym Leaders are some of the highest ranking, top notch, most extreme Pokémon trainers you'll ever meet! And here on Cobbleland, it will be no different. You must prepare your team diligently, and work extremely hard to stand face to face with one of these tough foes.

Your Gym Leaders!

On Cobbleland we have player-ran Gyms. This means that you will be fighting against another player. As such, it is a good idea to familiarize yourself with these friendly faces. You may do so by using either /warp gymleaders or simply /gymleaders. You will then be transported to an area showcasing every current Gym Leader.

These players have been chosen based on an application sent in to our Gym Managers. As such, these players will be exceptionally skilled, kind, respectful, and humble. Please feel free to ask any Gym Leader for help on things such as teambuilding, strategizing, or general game knowledge. They will be some of the most knowledgeable people that you are bound to meet in your time on Cobbleland.

Gym Rules

Located near the Gym Leaders you will find the Gym Rules room. Inside this room, you will find all rules that both challengers and leaders must follow during their battles, including the point values for each Pokémon that they apply to.

Because Cobbleland is an ever-growing ecosystem, it is necessary for Gym Managers to create rules in order to keep the essence of the game fair. Commonly used rules (such as Smogon rules) will not be applicable, since our meta will be constantly changing. Addition of certain mechanics such as Z-Moves, Terastalization, or even certain Pokémon may occur randomly, so these rules would not apply.

As such, they have created an in-depth warp at /warp gymrules or simply /gymrules to help familiarize yourself with our unique gym system. In this guide, we will go over the intricacies and the ins and outs of each rule individually.

As a general rule of thumb, your team must consist of 6 Pokémon. If a Pokémon is not listed in the Gym Rules, it will not be worth any points. Additionally, any Pokémon labelled as Banned will not be usable whatsoever. All Pokémon must be level 100 with the maximum EV investment of 508. This is because Gym Leaders themselves will have fully trained Pokémon, and it will be in your best effort to match them in that regard.

Rule 1: Species Clause No team can consist of more than one Pokémon with the same Pokédex number. Mega forms of a Pokémon are still the same species.

Ex: Using 2 Magikarp on the same team is illegal.

Rule 2: Endless Battle Clause Any moveset on any Pokémon that is capable of intentionally causing an endless battle is banned. (i.e Smeargle, Blissey, Slowking with Recycle + Leppa Berry.)

Rule 3: Sleep Clause Players cannot induce sleep on more than one of the opponent's Pokémon at a time.

Note: Moves that may or may not cause sleep such as Dire Claw are exempt from this rule. Additionally, self inflicted sleep through Rest is never counted.

Rule 4: Evasion Clause Moves that boost evasion (i.e Minimize, Double Team, etc.) are banned.

Rule 5: OHKO Clause Moves that OHKO (or, One Hit Knock Out) the foe (i.e Fissure, Guillotine, Horn Drill, Sheer Cold, etc.) are banned.

Rule 6: Healing Items Usage of healing items such as potions and revives during a battle is strictly forbidden.

Rule 7: Various Items Usage of King's Rock, Razor Fang, Razor Claw and Quick Claw is banned.

Rule 8: Baton Pass Clause The move Baton Pass is banned.

Rule 9: Item Clause Rule You may only use 1 unique item on each Pokémon. Ex: 2 Pokémon on your team holding a Choice Scarf is not a legal team.

Rule 10: Arceus Clause You are allowed to use any form of Arceus on a Normal Monotype Team. however it will cost your wildcard slot. Note: Only applicable to Normal Type Gym Leaders.

Rule 11: Perish Trap Clause You are not allowed to have the moves Encore or Perish Song on a Pokémon that also has an ability to prevent switching out.

BANNED POKEMON Mega Rayquaza Koraidon Miraidon Ultra Necrozma BANNED ITEMS King's Rock Razor Claw Razor Fang Quick Claw Bright Powder BANNED MOVES Minimize Double Team Fissure Guillotine Horn Drill Sheer Cold Baton Pass

These rules are enforced in order to make each match fair for both sides. As such, if you or a Gym Leader recognizes that a rule has been broken, action will be taken. It is important to follow every rule during a Gym Battle, as breaking one will mean that the battle is instantly forfeit. Depending on who broke the rule, the round will be awarded to the person who did not break the rules. If a player or Gym Leader has repeatedly broken any rules, they will subsequently be either removed from their position, or a hold will be placed on their ability to challenge a Gym. On Cobbleland, we care deeply about the sense of fairness felt by each and every player, so best to read up on those rules before taking your first step to becoming Champion! Note: In the case of a disconnection or crash of a Gym Leader, the current round will go to the challenger. If the challenger crashes or disconnects, it is up to them whether or not to restart or forfeit the victory.

Points

The Point System is a mechanic introduced by the Gym Managers that will help out both players and Gym Leaders. Essentially, your team is given a maximum capacity of 5 points. Certain Pokémon (such as legendaries, paradoxes, ultra beasts, etc.) will increase your point value. It is important to take into account these point values before constructing a team, in order to make sure that they are within the capacity.

Your team is allowed to be comprised of any combination of valued Pokémon, so long as they do not exceed 5 points. This means that you may use 2 Legendary Pokémon, or 2 Paradox Pokémon in conjunction, as long as they do not go over the maximum.

Why?

It may seem a bit silly to place a limit on which Pokémon can be used in conjunction with another. However, due to the current status of Cobbleland's progression, we are essentially in a limited National Dex Ubers tier of games. This means that while some Pokémon might be incredibly strong with the addition of certain other Pokémon (or the result of one not being added yet,) and the presence of certain game mechanics, it is hard to classify the combat scene as purely one tier.

As such, these point values have been devised to place effective limits on Pokémon that may appear to be too strong at their current state. It is important to note that with each update, the Gym Rules may or may not shift accordingly. Your Gym Managers are watching very closely with each introduction of even a single Pokémon.

Challenging a Gym

As Gyms are ran by players, the best way to challenge a gym is to ask them when they are currently online. Before you do however, ask yourself a few questions; - Does my team follow all Gym Rules? - Do I have time to challenge a leader? - Am I prepared? If the answer is NO to any of these questions, then perhaps now is not the best time. But fret not, young trainer, as these players will be on quite often. Gym Leaders will always be ready for a fight, so as soon as you know you're prepared, shoot them a message asking to challenge. When you challenge a gym, there will be two distinct parts: A trial, and your Gym Battle. Similarly to the mainline games, each Gym Leader has a specific trial created by themselves that you must pass first before fighting them. These can range anywhere, from parkour, to a maze, to a quiz, to even a game of chess. Be sure you're ready for anything when you challenge a Gym Leader!

If you fail a Gym Leader's trial, do not worry, as you are free to challenge them again once 24 hours have elapsed. While these trials are meant to be challenging, they are not meant to be impossible. Your endurance and patience will be tested, but once you make it through that trial...

Remember to keep a cool head, analyze your opponent, and get that badge. You got this, trainer. P.S. Please remember to follow all rules, and be respectful during any PvP matches you may partake in. We thank you for making our server a livelier place with your epic battles!
