# Nicknames

Nicknames are a special mechanic for those who have either purchased a rank or the `/nickname` command on our [store page](https://store.cobbleland.com/category/commands). Maybe your name has felt a little bland recently, and a bit of color or a different formatting might pep up your step!

<figure><img src="/files/IHFYG9egh6GOyA2Z7sfF" alt=""><figcaption><p>A regular name.</p></figcaption></figure>

Fret not, Trainers! We're here to tell you exactly how to make your name all sorts of pretty colors and fonts. First, you will want to access the website "[RGB Birdflop.](https://www.birdflop.com/resources/rgb/)" This website will allow you to input any text, and apply any kind of formatting that you wish to achieve.

While there are many things you can do with your nickname, here are a few examples:

<figure><img src="/files/oZKTyorH63yt58kqIuuY" alt=""><figcaption><p>A shortened nickname.</p></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/GkiWkbRRUQa3okB2bzoZ" alt=""><figcaption><p>A nickname made Bold.</p></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/84rXLjg5UfcjJJeoImCM" alt=""><figcaption><p>A nickname made in Italics.</p></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/WWBWTTXPm5Q4PkDclwD5" alt=""><figcaption><p>A bolded, shortened nickname with a color gradient.</p></figcaption></figure>

So, how exactly does one manipulate their name to be so awesome and colorful, you may ask? Simply prepare your name of choice, and enter it into Birdflop's text box.

<figure><img src="/files/UMuK7IhJi8xKrIe4sL6p" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

For the text in your name, put it into the **Input Text** box in the **Inputs** section of the website. This can include text of different fonts, or symbols, as long as they can be pasted into Minecraft without issues.&#x20;

<figure><img src="/files/lo1dKaya4c4k1pfXcDQ8" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Next, set your **Color Format.** Using the `<#rrggbb>` color format will work seamlessly on Cobbleland.

<figure><img src="/files/D0QI7PpDwwhYKF7MuVY0" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

If you wish to use **Bold**, *Italic*, Underline or ~~Strikethrough~~ in your name, it is better to do so using the command on Minecraft, as the formatting on Birdflop might not co-operate well. Additionally, you need not worry about the Prefix or Presets boxes, unless you wish to use them. The **Prefix** box will add the command string to your outputted text, in this case, `/nickname set <username>`. The **Presets** box will take an exported nickname and apply it directly to your input, allowing for an easy copy.

Finally, the last part that you will need to change (of course, if you so desire,) is the **Colors** section. The **Color Preset** box will choose either a predetermined gradient or solid color for your name as opposed to manually selecting the colors yourself.

<figure><img src="/files/BA7rMhSzWVA61RmVdk2b" alt=""><figcaption><p>An example of the "Mango" Color Preset.</p></figcaption></figure>

Under the Color Preset option is the Color Amount option. As Birdflop makes colored gradients, you can choose how many colors you wish to be expressed in your text.

<figure><img src="/files/xlq823DN5QAHUAww8F1k" alt=""><figcaption><p>Each color will correspond to a character of your text.</p></figcaption></figure>

*Note: If you have the same amount of colors as you do characters, each character will be that color specifically. If you have a lesser amount of colors than you do characters, it will have a much more noticeable gradient effect, using colors in-between hex codes. Using less characters than there are colors will cause your existing characters to have mixed colors.*

<figure><img src="/files/1nBuX74GR1HGAIIyse2c" alt=""><figcaption><p>Colors > Characters</p></figcaption></figure>

If you wish to use your own custom colors, you will have to manually edit the Hex Color boxes for the colors you wish to use. This can be done in two ways; one, using the color box provided by Birdflop to find Hex Codes, or by using an online Hex Code generator, such as [this one](https://htmlcolorcodes.com/).

<figure><img src="/files/kE6KlRXcBBjTGldMnODh" alt=""><figcaption><p>Birdflop's Color Picker</p></figcaption></figure>

There are three components of your color; **Hue, Saturation, and Lightness. Hue** is controlled by the slider bar to the right, and consists of the colors of the visible wavelength. **Saturation** follows the trend of decreasing to the left, and increasing to the right. This is because as you move further to the right, your color will appear more "saturated" and brighter, while when moving to the left, it will become "dull", or either white or black, depending on your lightness. Speaking of, **Lightness** is the final factor of your color. As the name implies, this component controls how "light" your color appears. It follows the trend of increasing upward, and decreasing downward, causing a color to become closer to white when moving up, and closer to black when moving down.

Simply choose the correct colors you wish to use in your nickname, and presto! Now you just need to input your output text into Minecraft!

<figure><img src="/files/9beM7094BhPzeKf89icM" alt=""><figcaption><p>An example of output text.</p></figcaption></figure>

By clicking the Output box, the correct text will be copied to your clipboard. Navigating back to Minecraft, enter the following: `/nickname set <username>`. Anything after the `<username>` argument will become your nickname.

And voila! You now have a beautiful and colorful nickname! Or, well, you might! Whatever floats your boat! If you wish to have a bit more creativity in your name, we recommend using some of the following additions to your name:

| Effect        | Syntax                                                                                  |
| ------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Bold          | ` <text>`                                                                         |
| Italic        | ` <text>`                                                                       |
| Underlined    | `<underlined> <text>`                                                                   |
| Strikethrough | `<strikethrough> <text>`                                                                |
| Font | Input a custom font into Birdflop's Input Box, and continue as normal. (i.e 𝓕𝓪𝓷𝓬𝔂) |
| Symbols | Input a custom symbol into Birdflop's Input Box, and continue as normal. (i.e ♕) |

*Note: Keep **Rule 8** in mind. Be sure to not make your nickname difficult to read (i.e all black) or completely invisible. Doing so will warrant a warning, and a Staff member will require you to change your name.*

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://wiki.cobbleland.com/cobblemon-wiki/welcome-to-cobblemon/general-information/nicknames.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
