# Shiny Pokémon **Shiny Pokémon** are Pokémon with a different coloration than their original forms. These Pokémon are highly sought after due to their extremely rare nature, and pretty (or sometimes ugly, looking at you, Garchomp!) color palettes. Additionally, these super rare Pokes emit sparkles when sent out!

### Base Odds The base odds to encounter a Shiny Pokémon on Cobbleland are **1/4096**. This chance is identical to the base odds in Pokémon Scarlet/Violet, and similarly to those games, can be increased through other means. ### Increased Odds There are a few ways in which a trainer can increase their shiny odds. * Through a Global Shiny Chance Increase, normally provided by special events. * By chaining a [Catch Combo](https://wiki.cobbleland.com/cobblemon-wiki/welcome-to-cobblemon/mechanic-guides/catch-combo) of 52 or higher. * By breeding using the [Masuda Method](https://wiki.cobbleland.com/cobblemon-wiki/welcome-to-cobblemon/mechanic-guides/breeding-guide). These methods of increasing odds may differ from each other, so it is recommended to choose which method fits your Pokémon the best. If your Pokémon is hard to catch in the wild, consider breeding, but if its abundant in the wild, consider a Catch Combo. ### Pokebuilder Pokebuilder is a way to ensure a Shiny Pokémon, given enough tokens. To check your current Pokebuilder Token balance, use the command `/pokebuilder tokens`. The amount that you will need will differ based on the kind of Pokémon you wish to turn Shiny. | Type of Pokemon | Cost (in tokens) | | ----------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------- | | Normal Pokémon (i.e non-legendary, non-Ultra Beast, non-Mythical) | 1500 PB Tokens | | Paradox Pokémon | 1500 PB Tokens | | Ultra Beast | 3000 PB Tokens | | Legendary Pokémon | 3000 PB Tokens | | Mythical Pokémon | 3000 PB Tokens | There is only one Pokémon that cannot be used with `/pokebuilder`, which is **Ditto****.** To obtain a shiny Ditto, the only method will be through catching in the wild, so [Catch Combos](https://wiki.cobbleland.com/cobblemon-wiki/welcome-to-cobblemon/mechanic-guides/catch-combo) are your best bet.\ \ Once you have checked your token balance, use `/pokebuilder` to open up the menu. All 6 members of your current party will be shown, select the one you wish to make shiny.

Once you have selected the correct Pokémon, simply select the **Star Sweet** option labelled "**shiny**". Next, select the Shiny Stone to proceed to your purchase. If you have a large enough balance, completing the transaction will turn your Pokémon shiny! For more information on the Pokebuilder mechanic, please check out our Pokebuilder Guide! ### Personal Trades / GTS Another way to ensure a Shiny Pokemon is through trading with other players. This can be done through either the GTS, or through direct messaging. Many players will often list their Shiny Pokémon on the GTS, so if you see something you like, make sure to grab it before somebody else does! Additionally, you may directly ask in chat if somebody has a certain Shiny Pokémon. Remember to space out your requests, as if nobody is responding, there is a chance that nobody has that specific Pokémon. An alternative method of asking others is through our [**Discord**](https://discord.gg/MGevEjJg) server. Depending on which realm you play on, our Discord will have a corresponding Marketplace section to help you set up trades with other players.

The channel that will net you the best possibility of a Shiny will be the Pokémon channel. To help make your requests easier for others to see, there is normally a very efficient way to ask for other Pokémon.

Writing "Looking for" or LF for short will help others quickly and effectively read your request.

If somebody responds to your request stating that they have what you might want, be sure to respond to them in a timely manner! You may decide to either complete the deal then and there, or set up a time with them through private messages. However, **please be wary of possible scams or malicious users, and remember to never exchange real world currency for any items or Pokémon on Cobbleland. Report any suspicious activity to a trusted Staff member.** ### Choice Tokens Choice Tokens are a great way to obtain a specific Pokémon, and some can even include Shiny Pokémon! The current means to obtain Shiny Pokémon of Choice tokens include: * `/trivia` * [Personal Trades / GTS](https://wiki.cobbleland.com/cobblemon-wiki/welcome-to-cobblemon/mechanic-guides/money-guide) * Server Events To redeem a Pokémon of Choice token, locate your nearest Senior Mod or higher ranked Staff Member, and send them a quick message. If they can complete your request, they will ask you 2 questions; what would you like, and how did you obtain your token? After answering these questions, your desired Pokémon will magically *poof* its way into your PC or Party! Happy Battling, Trainer! ### Crates At `/warp crates`, there are many opportunities to obtain Shiny Pokémon! Each crate with the exception of the Trainer Crate or any unique skin crates will have a chance to present you with a Shiny Pokémon. Each crate will have different options on what shinies will be available, as some will only offer random Shiny Pokémon, Shiny Starters, or Shiny Legendaries. We recommend you to check out each crate's drops before deciding on which to focus on. Before you can use these keys, be sure to **right click them in the air.** You will see their texture change into a special key. Then, simply use it on your corresponding crate. By using any of the methods listed above, you'll be one step closer to getting an extremely rare Pokémon! Be sure to show them off to all of your friends, and make them feel jealous!
